Careers in Photography.

A sample of the type of topics which can be covered on this course. It is of course open to your own requirements, which are discussed with you at the start of each cNatalieourse.

Our Careers courses are over three, five or seven days. With the five and seven day courses, these can be spread over a period of three months. The courses are packed with information and are excellent for those wishing to get started in the Professional Photography market.

There is also just a Business Course which is designed for two days.

We cover all the types of markets that are out there for professional photographers, how to promote yourself within these markets. Are these markets for you?

We look at using key words, telephone techniques, making the booking, viewing the work and making large sales from the work you have taken.

Len has run three very successful studios in the past, and will put you on the right road to becoming a successful professional photographer.

The five and seven day courses will cover Portraiture, Weddings, Business, Digital, and even wedding videos. These can be spread over a few weeks or even months if you prefer, with an assessment at the end of the course. We will also look at getting you qualifies with the SWPP as a professional photographer at the end of the course.

14.30 Looking at data base and how to design our own. What fields are valuable to us and how do we use them to create continuing work.

15.00 Brochure design. Here we will help you to design your own brochure saving you time and money, showing you some of the best software packages available.

15.30 Practical, putting together a template from which you can work from. Looking at steps to create a framework for your services.

09.30 Taking a specific look at some of the markets available to us, such as school photography. We can take you through how we get the booking to producing the final images. Pricing, discounts, packages etc will all be looked at.

10.15 Taking a look at what it will cost you to set up, looking at equipment, lighting, cameras, computers, backgrounds, lens and tripods. What is recommended and used by professionals.

10.45 Pricing, what to charge and types of coverage's that can be offered.

11.30 Viewing systems, what can be used and how to sell large wall sizes.

12.15 Running successful promotions such as the Victorian Portrait competition. We will show you how we made 50,000.00 and managed to secure the same in free advertising.

14.30 Budgets. How much does it cost to run a photography business? what profit margins do I work with? What are my overheads? These are some of the questions that will be answered.

11.15 Introduction into Lighting. High Key, Low Key, Flash both studio and camera, fill light, additive, subtraction and ambient.

12.15 Working with models, demonstration the different lighting situations. Starting with studio light and then outdoor lighting.

13.30 Lunch

14.30 Outdoor lighting, here we take a look at subtraction of light and soft lighting. Models supplies for you to get some images for yourself.

15.00 Break.

15.15 Photoshop demonstration. Skin retouching and soft focus. We will also take a look at layers, boarders, frames, area selection and many other techniques.

16.00 Various tasks to set for you to complete tonight, with a viewing of images taken today planned for the morning. How do we present work to the client?

Day Three

09.30 Take a look at work taken from yesterdays shoot in the form of a presentation. How do we sell large images? How do we present the work we have taken?

12.00 Working with models, practical work at a church showing you how we work with the Bride, Groom and guests to get the best from the wedding day. We will take a look at the many different lighting situations that we should expect to find and use during a wedding.

13.30 Lunch

14.30 Looking at work taken from mornings shoot. Working with Photoshop, where we shall give you some valuable tips of how to speed up your workflow afterwards.

15.00 Presentation of Albums and how we present the finished product. List of important telephone numbers you will need to have for suppliers, frame manufactures, processing labs, etc.

15.30 Organizations, how to gain qualifications. We will let you know all the various professional bodies within the UK which you could join, together with what they have to offer.
